Artist Statement
Today I am living my dream of being a full time artist. Until just a few years ago, I was a busy mom of two, working as
a legal secretary in Alaska, who occasionally painted. Now the kids are grown and my husband Bob and I live in
New Brockton, Alabama. This dream was made possible when my husband’s job relocated to L.A. (Lower Alabama) and he
told me it was time to “go for it” and paint full time.

This process begins with my digital camera that I take wherever I travel. Out of a hundred photos, I may only find
one or two images which translate into a future painting. It’s simple. I paint what I know and love.
Patience is probably my greatest strength, as I spend much time focusing on my subject to discern every nuance of shadow
and light, painting in layers to build up and create what I see in my mind’s eye—a point in time that I want to preserve
and share with generations to come.
My work has a distinct style that sets it apart. Many people, when they view my watercolors or acrylics for the first
time, say my work gives them a feeling of happiness and peace. I take that as the ultimate compliment as I want my work
to reflect the amazing beauty surrounding us amidst this hectic and unpredictable world in which we live.
