Biography
Lindy Bruggink is an artist living in Ozark, Alabama who has studied painting, drawing, and sculpture with several notable artists including Burt Silverman, Rob Liberace, and Rick Weaver at The Art League School in Alexandria, Virginia and also at The Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy under Jura Bedic. Most recently she has studied landscape painting under Michael Workman at The Fredericksburg School of Art in Fredericksburg, Texas. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972 from Maryville College in Tennessee. She has taught painting workshops in Alabama as well as in the Washington, D.C. area.
In 2002 she was commissioned to paint a portrait of Secretary of State Colin Powell by his classmates at The National War College as he appeared when he was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The portrait hangs at The National War College at Ft. Lesley McNair in Washington, D.C.
Lindy has received recognition for her work from The Portrait Society of America, an international organization: In a 2006 Tri-State competition she received Honorable Mention, in 2007 she won a Certificate of Excellence in their annual competition, in 2009 she received Honorable Mention from The Portrait Society's Members Only Competition in the Paintings of Women category, and in 2015 she won 4th Place in their Members Only Competition in the category of Non-Commissioned Portraits. In addition, in 2013 she received Best of Show at the Montgomery Art Guild Museum Exhibition, in their 2015 exhibition she won the Thornton and Pat Clark Award, and in 2016 she won First Place in the Montgomery Art Guild Regions Bank Exhibition in the category of opaque painting (oil painting).
