ART WORK OF ELSIE PRATHER
The Ann Rudd Art Center in downtown Ozark, AL is proud to present the exclusive art of Elsie Prather, a resident of Dothan, AL. Born in Quito, Ecuador, Mrs. Prather studied art for six years at the Fine Arts School of Ecuador. Selected for further study at the Cartographic School at Fort Clayton in the Canal Zone she embarked on a new career and met and married Jackie Prather of the U.S. Army. Military life took them to an assignment in Europe where Mrs. Prather resumed her study of sculpture and explored the techniques of stained glass under the instruction of a German expert in the art.

Mrs. Prather participated in numerous art shows in Bavaria where she and her husband made their home for over three years. They returned to the Isthmus in 1970 where Mrs. Prather was once again inspired by the vibrant color and excitement of Panamanian life. Her enchanting interpretation of the sights, scenery and local culture appeared in galleries throughout the Canal Zone and Panama. During this period her pen and ink drawing of a picturesque Panamanian scene, “Un Lugar” was selected from entries submitted to the National League of American Pen Women for the 1976 Bicentennial Art Exhibit in our Nation’s Capital.
Elsie Prather’s winning piece “Un Lugar” hung in the Grand Foyer of the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. from April 9 to 11, 1976. It is now on exhibit at the Ann Rudd Art Center along with a large exhibition of her art which reflects sensitivity, imagination, and creative energy.
